The location

  • Le Puy Ardouin in the sun-drenched French department of Sud Vendee, an hour's drive from the Atlantic Ocean, near the town of Saint Pierre du Chemin.

There is plenty to do in the Vendee in high season. You can go to the picturesque artists' town of Vouvant (20 minutes) for galleries and restaurants. Or to the beautiful forest of Mervent (25 minutes) for walks, picnics and a play park (Parc de Pierre Brune). A climbing forest and go-kart track for young and old are a 15-minute drive away. Or visit one of the beautiful castles. The fantastic coastline (1 hour and 15 minutes) has countless lovely places and beaches to visit.

  • The Le Puy Ardouin estate is the last farm on a dead-end road, offering views across the valley. It is very quiet and 'tres isolé’, a place where you can open all your senses to experience nature.

Le Sud Vendee

Historical cities

One of our favorites is a visit to La Rochelle 'mini-Paris', it is beautiful with its old harbor and many restaurants. We also like to go to Nantes for, among other things, Ile de Machinerie, the world-famous large elephant. Closer by we recommend Vouvant, an artist town.

Beaches

You can reach the beaches in about an hour. There are many options, each with their own atmosphere. Les Sables D'Olonne is a city on the beach, where you can stroll along the coast. La Tranche sur Mer is a characteristic surf village with many tourist shops and restaurants.

Mervant & Marais Poitevin

The Mervant forest and lake (20 minutes) gives opportunity for walking, cycling and canoeing. A visit to the 'Marais Poitevin' (the green Venice) is also really worthwhile. It is a large nature reserve where you can rent electrical boats or take beautiful walks along the rivers.

Micro climate

The Sud Vendee is known for its micro climate and the associated large number of hours of sunshine! With 2300 hours of sunshine per year, the Vendee is hardly inferior to the Mediterranean region.

Puy du Fou

Spectacle park Puy de Fou (30km) spectacle park attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. It shows in a spectacular way the times of the gladiators, knights of the round table and the Vikings.

Zen garden

Maulévrier is home to the largest Oriental/Japanese garden in Europe. Just 35 km from Le Puy Ardouin, a visit to this garden is more than worthwhile. Tripadviser gives this park the maximum 5 stars!

Restaurants

There are not many restaurants close by, however we can really recommend Vouvant and Fontenay Le Comte. Or pick up pizza at the tent in the parking lot of the Super U. Excellent pizza. Open every day.

Surrounding land

The rural area around Le Puy Ardouin and the Vendee is friendly, gently sloping and varied. There are plenty of opportunities for walking in the immediate area. You can also take a walk on our own (10hectare) terrain.
